Our Mission

Our mission is to provide opportunities to explore the outdoors for children with special needs and disabilities.

We believe that every child deserves the chance to connect with nature, build confidence, and create lifelong memories in a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment.

The KWD Story

In 1990, brothers Kevin and Mike Pritchett were invited by the Uinta National Forest Service to help showcase a new ADA bathroom at Payson Lake. They organized a fishing day for 16 children with special needs and disabilities, creating an unforgettable experience as the kids learned to fish and connect with nature. Inspired by the joy it brought, Kevin and Mike partnered with the Forest Service and DWR to make Kids Fishing Day an annual event every second Tuesday of May. As the event grew to include hundreds of participants, it eventually moved to its current location at Salem Pond.

As success of the Kids Fishing Day grew, Kevin and Mike knew they needed to do more. As avid hunters, they decided that taking the children on an all inclusive turkey hunt would be a much needed opportunity for the children to create more memorable outdoor experiences. The first hunt was with the legendary Doug Miller Outdoor Show. Taking the children turkey hunting turned out to be such a huge achievement that neither brother expected. After years of successful hunts, the two brothers started guiding big game hunts as well.
