2024 Spring Turkey Hunt Recap: Unforgettable Moments with KWD Adventures

This past spring, Kids with Disabilities Adventures (KWD Adventures) had the incredible opportunity to create lasting memories for six remarkable young hunters during our annual turkey hunts. These hunts are more than just outdoor adventures—they are life-changing experiences that foster confidence, connection, and pure joy in the great outdoors.

Meet Our Hunters

Landon, who has Down syndrome, brought boundless enthusiasm and a contagious spirit to the hunt. Despite facing challenges, Landon’s perseverance paid off as he secured his turkey after a day filled with patience, laughter, and even a few snowball fights. His joy lit up the entire team, reminding us of the true essence of these adventures.

Shawn’s journey was equally touching. Initially feeling left out when his brother Weston was invited to hunt, Shawn’s heartfelt reaction to being included this year was a powerful reminder of the impact our events have. Despite tough conditions and long hours in the blind, Shawn’s determination never wavered. His excitement after a successful hunt was matched only by the pride of his family and guides.

Desi, often our trusted spotter, stepped into the spotlight as a hunter this year. Battling through a snowstorm, she showcased resilience and skill, ultimately bagging her bird after an eventful day filled with gobbling turkeys and close calls.

The Power of Community

None of this would be possible without our dedicated volunteers, generous landowners, and supportive families. From setting up blinds before dawn to adapting equipment for each child’s unique needs, our team worked tirelessly to ensure safety and success. The landowners who graciously provided access to prime hunting grounds played a pivotal role, offering not just land, but the chance for these kids to thrive in nature.

More Than a Hunt

While bagging a turkey is always a thrilling goal, the real success lies in the experiences shared: the anticipation of a gobble in the distance, the laughter over campfire stories, and the pride in overcoming obstacles. For many of these young hunters, it’s about more than the hunt—it’s about feeling included, capable, and celebrated.

Looking Ahead

As we reflect on the unforgettable moments of 2024, we’re already gearing up for 2025 with a goal to take even more kids on turkey hunts. Your support helps us make these adventures possible. Whether through volunteering, donating, or simply spreading the word, you play a vital role in changing lives, one hunt at a time.

Thank you to everyone who made this year’s turkey hunts a success. Here’s to many more adventures ahead!
